Islamabad, the capital of islamic republic of Pakistan. Located in the
Plateau northwest of Pakistan. Islamabad was planned and built during the 1960s when the then president of Pakistan, field marshal Mohammad Ayub Khan decided to shift the capital of Pakistan from Karachi to Islamabad due to safe and strategic position of Islamabad and the resources distribution among the Pakistanis like : Islamabad is very safe surrounded by Margalla Hills while Karachi was prone to attack from the seaside. Secondly the proximity of Islamabad to Rawalpindi, the Sister city of Islamabad and Home to General Head Quarters Pakistan Army. In the pre 1960's Development was specific to the southern part of Pakistan when Karachi was the capital of Pakistan. The Climate here in Islamabad is favourable as compared to Karachi.
Doxiadis Associates, A Greek firm of architects, drew up the master plan of the new city of Islamabad very carefuly and precisely, triangular in shape and is based on a grid system with its apex towards Margalla Hills. The proximity of Rawalpindi and Islamabad had given the status of sister city of Islamabad to Rawalpindi.

Islamabad is the first preplanned city of Pakistan and is the rather modern, clean and well organised city when compared to other cities of Pakistan. For administrative purposes the new city of Islamabad is divided into different sectors and zones. There are eight zones and several different sectors. Each sector in islamabad is identified by the english alphabet letter D to I and a number 5 through 12. Each sector in Islamabad has an area of 2 x 2 Km and further subdivided into 4 subsectors. Each subsector in Islamabad has its own Market and children park. The Eight Administrative zones of Islamabad are :

  • Administrative
  • Diplomatic Enclave
  • Residential Areas
  • Educational Sectors
  • Industrial Sectors
  • Commercial Areas
  • Rural Areas and Green Areas

When compared to the other cities of Pakistan, Islamabad is relatively new city. However, being the Capital of Pakistan, Islamabad turned into the most green, beautiful and fastly becoming metropolitan city of the South Asia. Daman e Koh Park, the huge marble Shah Faisal Mosque, incised gardens of Islamabad's Shakar Parian Hills, the fascinating Heritage Museum at Lok versa (cultular complex), are some high spots of this modern city of Islamabad. Blue Area is the central business district and commercial center of Islamabad running along the length of Jinnah Avenue.
